About

Experience the rich culture and captivating history of Bosnia and Herzegovina at “Bosnaseum,” a remarkable museum nestled in the heart of Mostar's old town. Opened just two years ago, this expansive museum spans an impressive 800 square meters, housing 12 thematic sections that offer a comprehensive journey through the diverse heritage of the country.

But Bosnaseum is more than just an exhibition space; it's a captivating interactive adventure that allows visitors to embark on a virtual voyage through the history of Mostar and Herzegovina. Explore the depths of time and immerse yourself in the fascinating stories that each artifact holds. This incredible collection owes its existence to the passionate collector from Bugojno, Dragan Mučibabić, who has spent over 40 years rescuing invaluable historical objects from oblivion. With a collection boasting over 30,000 artifacts, Mučibabić's contribution has given life to Bosnaseum, and he believes there's enough to equip several museums.

Bosnaseum aims to represent all periods, from prehistory—where mammoth teeth from five million years ago take center stage—to the present day. Every exhibit has its own tale to tell. For example, a Turkish saber, once acquired in Bugojno, found its way back to Mostar only to be consumed by fire during the war. The museum also showcases a spearhead from Prusac near Bugojno, a pipe unearthed from the Ottoman era, and a džeferdar rifle discovered buried along the Vrbas River in Bugojno.

Step into the ethno rooms dedicated to various periods and ways of life, where all the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina are meticulously represented. Don't miss the rooms displaying collections of traditional costumes and long-lost crafts, offering a glimpse into the vibrant heritage of the region.

Bosnaseum goes beyond a conventional museum experience. It provides visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the development of Mostar and Herzegovina through distinct eras, including the Turkish, Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslavian periods, and the impact of the recent war. Engaging video presentations allow civilians to empathize with the struggles faced during wartime.

Travelers from around the world have been captivated by Bosnaseum's presentations. One tourist from Ljubljana shared her appreciation, expressing delight in the museum's tribute to the iconic leader Tito and the deeply moving film depicting the destruction of the bridge.

To enhance the exhibition further, a meticulously crafted model village from the late Ottoman era awaits exploration. In the final section of the museum, a permanent wartime display takes visitors to the core of the conflict. But this is just the beginning, as Bosnaseum has exciting plans to expand its collection in the near future.

Join us at Bosnaseum and unlock the secrets of Bosnia and Herzegovina's vibrant history. Immerse yourself in the stories, marvel at the artifacts, and let us take you on an unforgettable journey through time. Discover the soul of Mostar and the rich tapestry of Herzegovina's past, and be part of the exciting growth of Bosnaseum as it continues to captivate and inspire visitors from all corners of the globe.
