Fojnica is a town and municipality in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, located west of the capital Sarajevo. It lies in the valley of the Fojnička River, tributary of the river Bosna. It is a small, picturesque town in central Bosnia.
The most important cultural site in Fojnica is the Holy Spirit Franciscan Monastery which houses an important part of the nation's cultural heritage, maintained by the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena.
There are famous and old mosques: Atik – Srednja (1551), Hadžimuharemova (1682), and Čaršijska placed on the place of Šaban-Ahmedova (1666). Dervish’s-houses (Tekkes): Vukeljići and Oglavak. The “Musafirhana”, family house of the Salihagić. “Gornja mahala” oldest part of Fojnica with old (traditional) Bosnian houses.
