The building was designed as a representative facility with space for classes as axis, and the rooms on the sides as accommodation. By a decision of Gazi Husrev Bey himself, the madrasah is situated in the heart of the city and the leading architect of the Ottoman Empire at the time, the Persian Adjem Esir Ali, managed its construction.
Students who attended the madrasah received quality education, had prominent professors, accommodation and a fine diet. Many acquired respectable titles and positions: they were judges, generals, imams, professors, scientists, academics, mayors, diplomats, ministers, etc.
